A Day At The Park

A Day At The ParkA day of free family fun at Andrew Jackson State Park is planned from on Sunday, October 28th from 1 PM to 5 PM. The Indian Land Fall Festival has joined with the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization to host Day at the Park.

The highlight of the event is pro bass fisherman Maliek Carrington’s fishing outreach program – Fishing4Reel Outdoors. Carrington, known as “The Urban Angler,” is on a mission to provide underserved youth with the opportunity to fish and learn more about boating and fishing.

He will bring three pro bass boats for kids ages 5-12 to inspect firsthand and take photos. He and his team will divide the kids into groups for instruction on basic fishing techniques, such as hooking bait, casting and reeling. Davis said he hopes the day helps some kids fall in love with fishing and gives them and their families a new hobby.

“You never know … you may make a pro fisherman out of a few of them,” he said.

Carrington will be giving out free fishing poles while supplies last, so as many as possible can participate. Cornhole games and bounce houses will be on hand at no charge. Free hot dogs and drinks will also be provided. The park will be free to enter and the event is free, too. The park is at 196 Andrew Jackson Park Road, off U.S. 521 just south of Indian Land.
